Tottenham news as impressive Ange Postecoglou tipped to be on Manchester City radar after Spurs results
Gary Neville has claimed that Manchester City will be looking at Ange Postecoglou as a potential successor for Pep Guardiola after the Tottenham boss continued his remarkable start in charge. After beating Nottingham Forest on Friday Spurs moved back level on points with City, albeit having played a game extra.
Despite the two sides finishing 29 points apart last season Postecoglou has changed almost everything about the north Londoners in his short spell with many shifting their views on the Australian massively. Neville, who has been highly complimentary of the former Celtic man, now thinks his impact will be attracting attention of the biggest clubs in the world.
“We see, sometimes, managers say they need time to build a style at a football club, time to get used to the players,” he told Sky Sports at the City Ground. “What he’s [Postecoglou] done in such a short period of time is quite staggering because he’s not only implementing what would be an idea of play, he’s put something in place that’s breathtaking to watch, but actually it’s quite complex when you watch it from a football point of view.
“When you think getting players into positions, to be like clockwork, can take not just months, or 40, 50 matches, it can take two to three seasons. You see Pep Guardiola even in that first season at Manchester City, it was difficult for him to get exactly what he wanted across [to the players]. Eventually obviously he has and it’s unbelievable."
Spurs are already more than half way to matching their points tally for last year with two games still to go before reaching the 19 game mark. They are on course to smash the goalscoring return and also put up better defensive numbers too despite playing such expansive football.
Without Harry Kane and having also transitioned away from club captain Hugo Lloris over the summer it is an even more impressive achievement. Given that Postecoglou was down the list of options to replace Antonio Conte as the permanent head coach the transformation has come as a surprise to many.
